My time in Belfast is coming to an end. I’m already checked in for my return flight. Soon the suitcase will be packed.

On the one hand I am looking forward to Berlin. On the other hand, I also know that there are many aspects of Belfast that I am going to miss. In Belfast, for example, you can walk anywhere. The city is so small that it is actually never worth to drive by bus or take a taxi. This shows in my step statistics. In April and May on average I walked 9-10 km per day. In Berlin I was at 3-5 km…

What I will definitely not miss is my accommodation. With every day my frustration becomes a little bit bigger and I can’t wait to move into my clean and comparatively huge apartment in Berlin. The room mate is also a thousand times better 😛 Since I’m going home soon, of course I tried to really use my time here.

Like on Monday I was at Irish dancing again on Wednesday. On Tuesday I went to school comrades and organized a “cocktail evening”, although there weren’t a lot of choices other than my Pina Colada (whose recipe I need to work on).

Thursday, Tim and I were invited to go for a drink with our company. At the moment there is a “continental market” right in front of the town hall, where there are numerous stalls with food and drinks from all over the world. We sat in the German beer tent, where Berlin beer was served. It was a very nice round! After that, a younger colleague still wanted to celebrate with us. I didn’t want to do this on a Thursday, because we should still be working in the morning on Friday. Unfortunately the colleague was from the sales team and did not want to accept a “no”. So began a long evening in which I had to try to get home somehow. In between, a taxi was held hostage just to get me to come along. But after a while I managed to escape and get some sleep before my last real working day.

Tim and I didn’t have much to do any more. Mainly we made sure that all of our tasks were properly handed over to the people concerned. From our supervisor and the management, we have been given a really nice card. My supervisor has written in my card “you also now have friends for life in Belfast”. After this touching farewell, unfortunately many colleagues were at meetings or in the case of our supervisor on a concert, so that our planned farewell lunch had to be cancelled. Tim and I still finished our week with a delicious meal.

In the evening I was on the road with the other Germans I met here for the last time. Unfortunately they had to go back to Berlin on Saturday. We were on a very fun Pubcrawl. Among other things, we got to know a couple of Irish people who taught us some typical Irish phrases:

“Bout ye?” – “Hello, how are you doing?”

“Wind your neck in!” – “calm down and shut up. You’re wrong! ”
The Urban Dictionary uses it like this in a sentence: “Dave, we’ve missed our exit thanks to your shit map reading, adding 20 miles to our journey, so wind your fucking neck in.”
Ummm, be careful. Strong language…

We stayed there until the pubs closed (which is not so long here. All pubs and clubs do so between 1 and 2). After a full week and the Pubcrawl I was exhausted and enjoyed a relaxed weekend.

On Sunday I visited a couple of schoolmates for a nice evening with board games. “The Great Dalmuti” was the most fun.
