It has been one week since I arrived in Belfast. A lot has happened since my last update.

At work

On Wednesday I had my first day at work, which was quite exciting as I have never worked for an English-speaking company before. I am accompanied by another German intern from my school. So far everyone has been very welcoming and nice to us. It is especially intriguing to be able to code in a professional environment. Up to now I had to do personal projects to gain more experience. I am looking forward to the challenges ahead and hope that it will also help to improve my English.

Fajitas

Concerning my accommodation everything is well. In my opinion it could be cleaner and it’s still annoying that I can’t open my door without it hitting a cupboard, but for two months it should suffice. It’s really nice being so close to the city centre as I have yet to use any public transportation because I can walk everywhere. I’ve socialized a lot more with two of my house mates, who are really nice. They are also vegetarian which is a big plus for me as I can talk about food with them 🙂 One of the things I miss the most is my clean and well equipped kitchen, but in return I’ve tasted a lot of different foods which I can’t get in Germany. Although one might think I only eat hummus as I am now using the fifth package (all different flavours of course). Yes, I am that addicted.

Summer roll time

It has also been great getting to know school mates from another class. I don’t get to see them in school as they have classes either the week before or after us. Together we have made delicious summer rolls (most credit goes to Giang), played card games deep into the night and gone sightseeing in Belfast. Because of this I spent most of my time out of the house which is why I am only now updating my Blog.

Lord Mayor me

Our most notable endeavour was visiting the City Hall where I was promptly made Lord Mayor as you can see in the photographic evidence.

Afterwards we also visited the Victoria Square which is a large shopping centre with a beautiful view over the city. Scroll down for more pictures.

Next week there is going to be a Quiz night organised by Intern Europe and let’s see what else is going to happen.

See you soon!
